Freshly machined dragline baseplate catching the light on the workshop floor, a large gear resting at its edge

Capabilities — Paget, Mackay

The largest machine shop north of Brisbane — and Australia's only large bearing manufacturer.

150 t workpieces· Ø 5.5 m gear cutting· 9,000 m² under one roof· Repaired all in house, 24/7

9,000 Building complex
30,000 Hardstand & storage
10×10×35m Dimensional load access
150t Dual lift · 12 m under hook

Largest 11 kV electric power capacity at Paget· 3.3 kV available for testing underground mining plant

Seven departments

Work moves between them without leaving the floor.

Fabrication, slew bearings, induction hardening, machining, fitting, painting — with engineering across all of it. The integration is the capability: it's how a gear case goes from strip to survey to re-machine to coat without a truck movement.

01 — Steel fabrication & welding

A fabrication building sized for draglines.

Small detailed work to large structural sectionalised weldments — dragline booms, buckets, walking frames, stacker-reclaimers, crushers and screens — with accredited Welding Supervisors leading certified Welders and Boilermakers.

  • Fabrication building 90 × 30 × 16 m — with 4 dragline bucket arch pits
  • Workpieces to 150 t — sheave rotators to 5 m diameter
  • Submerged-arc, TIG and MIG — booms, manipulators, rolls and jigs
  • Patented ABClad hard-surfacing — wear reclamation

02 — Large-diameter slew bearings

The only large bearing manufacturer in Australia.

Manufacture, refurbishment and repair for hydraulic excavators, cranes and industrial plant — Komatsu, Liebherr, O&K, Caterpillar and Hitachi — backed by the Worldwide Slew Bearing Alliance with BMT, a global bearing-rebuild network.

  • OEM bearings condition-assessed, rebuilt and warranted from 30% of replacement cost
  • In-situ change-out — integrated excavator jacking and support stands
  • Site-based condition monitoring — car-body drive-out options

03 — Induction hardening & heat treatment

Queensland's most modern commercial induction facility.

Surface hardening for slew bearings, rope drums and sheaves, shafts, pins and bushes, load rollers and drive sprockets — offered commercially to external customers, not just our own rebuilds.

  • Induction units 200–400 kW at 3–10 kHz
  • Hardening to 60 HRC at 3–15 mm case depth
  • Gas-fired stress-relieve and normalise oven 6.5 × 5.5 × 2.7 m to 800 °C

04 — Machining

The department the claim is named after.

The largest machine shop north of Brisbane — CNC floor and vertical borers, long-bed machines, mills, planers and radial-arm drills, with detailed QA packages provided with all work completed.

  • CNC floor borer — 13 m travel, 6 m column, workpieces to 150 t
  • CNC vertical borers to Ø 5 m — twin-post to Ø 3.5 m, 18 t tables
  • CNC gear cutting — external and internal to Ø 5.5 m
  • CNC lathes for workpieces over 40 t

05 — Fitting

Stripped, measured, recorded — rebuilt to OEM spec.

Gear case and main machinery overhaul: every assembly cleaned, stripped, assessed, measured and recorded before it's rebuilt. Fitting works alongside fabrication, machining and painting — which is what lets ABC repair all in house, 24/7.

  • Jacking presses to 600 t
  • Gear-case and main-machinery overhaul to OEM spec
  • Integrated with fabrication, machining and painting — one floor, 24/7

06 — Industrial painting

Blast and coat, to industrial and marine spec.

Abrasive blasting and protective coatings at industrial scale, applied by trade-accredited painters with QA on the coating system — the last step before a rebuild leaves the floor.

  • Protective coatings to industrial and marine specifications
  • Airless and conventional spray — high-pressure cleaning, maintenance painting
  • Trade-accredited painters — QA on all coating work

FEA stress plot — SolidWorks structural analysis

07 — Engineering & design

Drawn, analysed, reverse-engineered.

The design office behind the floor — 3D modelling, structural analysis and drafting that turns a worn component with no drawings into a manufacturable, optimised replacement.

  • SolidWorks 3D modelling and FEA structural analysis
  • Drafting to AS1100 — conceptual and workshop drawings, AutoCAD
  • Reverse engineering and design optimisation
